OCU Women's soccer ended it's 2nd year of existence this past weekend. It may not have gone the way they had hoped, but they still kept a standard, Regional Finalists. Trailblazers opened their season Tuesday night in Indiana against NAIA Indiana University-East. The team came out very slow and sluggish. At halftime, the Trailblazers went into the locker room down by 6 with a score of 35 to 41. "We came out of the locker room and tried to get the game up tempo by pressing and it back fired on us to put us farther in the hole.
Coming off of a 4-21 2009 season that was full of ups and downs, Ohio Christian came into the 2010 season poised to build a stronger foundation. The Trailblazers brought in Tiffany Mosher, Ashley Southard, and Rachel Briggs who helped raise the serve receive percentage of the team from 78% in the 2009 season to 90% in 2010.
Ohio Christian entered the 2010 Mid-East Regional Tournament as the 4th seed, ranked 24th in the nation, and finished as the regional runner-up.
The OCU men's soccer team did it again. They won the Mid-East Regional Tournament which gives them an automatic bid to the National Tournament.
To begin the 2010 Ohio Collegiate Athletics Conference, Ohio Christian faced off against Southern State Community College. The Trailblazers came out strong and put together a solid 3 set victory over the Patriots with scores 25-9, 25-17, 25-7. Sophomore Linette Shetler and Freshman Ashley Southard headed up the offense with 8 kills a piece.
OCU Women lost to Kentucky Christian University 1-3 this past weekend placing them 2nd in the Region behind KCU. In what has become a very frustrating year for the women due to many injuries, they still have a never say die attitude. "The ladies are tough. OCU Men's Soccer win the Mid-East Regional Regular Season title for a 3rd straight year after beating both Appalachian Bible College,5-1 and Kentucky Christian Univ., 4-1 this past weekend.
The Ohio Christian University Women's Volleyball team completed its string of 5 matches in 5 days with a win and a 5 match record of 4-1. The Lady Trailblazers defeated the Patriots of Southern State Community College in 3 straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-16. Sophomore Linette Shetler led the offensive charge with a season high 11 kills with a 50% hitting percentage.
The OCU Volleyball team pulled out a close road win over OCAC opponent Clark State Community College 15-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23. Five OCU hitters had 7 or more kills in the 4 set victory. Freshman Ashley Southard had a solid match with 10 kills and a 21% hitting percentage. Freshman Rachel Briggs chipped in 3 aces at critical moments in the match.
