Course Descriptions: Business Management
PS1000 College Study Skills: 1 credit (3 weeks)
This introductory course prepares the adult learner to enter college and reduces anxiety by focusing on organization, time management, and study skills. The student will be guided through the process of setting personal, educational and spiritual goals with supporting strategies to facilitate the transition and lay the framework for a successful college experience.
IT1000 Introduction to Computers: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course provides a fundamental knowledge of computers and how they work, with the focus on desktop computing. The student is required to create documents using both word processor and spreadsheet software. The course is constructed to provide the student with the minimal level of competency with computers expected for a college graduate and will be adaptable to meet the needs of adult students possessing various levels of computer skills.
EN1010 English Composition I: 3 credits (5 weeks))
This course will serve as a foundation for the adult student to learn and review the standards of the practice and the process of expository writing. Special emphasis is given to the writing process, the essay format, modes of exposition, and the writing of research papers.
NT2000 New Testament Survey: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course provides a general survey of the New Testament. Special emphasis is placed on the historical background of the New Testament, the beginning of Christianity and the development of the apostolic church.
MG1000 Introduction to Management: 3 credits (5 weeks)
An introductory course to management principles including organizational planning, staffing, leadership and evaluation. Scriptural principles as applicable to management will be discussed. The student will have the opportunity to evaluate current or past management experiences and set goals for future challenges.
EN2010 English Composition II: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course will build on the foundation of English Composition I and enhance the student’s abilities in the process of expository and creative writing. Special emphasis will be on the development of portfolios and expanding the student’s style and voice.
SI1000 Introduction to Math Systems: 3 credits (6 weeks)
An introduction to basic mathematics. The course will study several mathematical systems including an introduction to algebra, statistics, geometry, and probability. The course is designed for learning math systems with life-application for the adult student.
OT1000 Old Testament Survey: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course is a study of the history of the people of God in the Old Testament as that history is recorded from Genesis to Esther. It will consider God’s redemptive plan as it is expressed in His covenants with Israel. Special emphasis will be made to help the student understand the geography and history of the Ancient Near East.
SI2050 Business Math: 3 credits (6 weeks)
This course is designed to give the student experience with problem solving in mathematics related to business. Arithmetic and basic algebra skills are needed prior to entry. Prerequisite: Completion of SI1000 or comparable.
SP2000 Oral Communication: 3 credits (5 weeks)
The principles of speech composition, outlining and delivery are discussed. There is practice in preparing and presenting short informative, persuasive, demonstrative, and actuating speeches. The student will be encouraged to make immediate application of principles within current work environment.
MG2020 Accounting 1: 3 credits (5 weeks)
Introduction to the double-entry system of bookkeeping and the basic accounting cycle. The sole proprietorship is presented in the form of a retail establishment. Emphasizes individual effort through the use of a workbook and practice set.
SI1050 Office Applications: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This class will focus on advanced uses of MS Office suite of applications Excel and MS Publisher. Prerequisite: Completion of IT1000 or comparable.
MG1060 Project Management: 3 credits (4 weeks)
This course will assist students in conceiving of the “critical line” in developing and implementing a plan to accomplish any project.
SO2010 Marriage and Family: 2 credits (3 weeks)
Provides a survey of basic family organization, from courtship through the adjustments of the family in the modern home. A Christian perspective will be emphasized. The adult student will be challenged to apply principles learned with current relationships.
PH2000 Introduction to Philosophy: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course provides the student with an introduction of philosophical concepts, beginning with the Greeks through “Augustine and concluding with the significant philosophical systems of western world and eastern philosophy. Evaluation of these systems relative to personal faith and values will assist the student in developing a personal statement of philosophy.
MG3010 Management Principles: 3 credits (5 weeks)
A study of the five parts of managing organizations: planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling/evaluating—with the study of principles for application to both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations and applications in organizations with references to Scripture.
PS2000 Introduction to Psychology: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course provides an introductory study of the fundamental concepts of psychology including biological processes, development, behavior, learning and memory, personality, psychological disorders, and social psychology.
GB1010 Bible Study Methods: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course is a study of the formation of the Bible and its authority. The student will learn the principles and practice of independent Bible Study and will study methods of interpretation including the identification of meaning, context and personal application of the Bible.
MG2200 Entrepreneur Basics: 3 credits (5 weeks)
The basic information needed to develop a business start-up including planning, organizing, leading and evaluating. Discussion about the “Big Idea” and emotional intelligence will be a part of this course.
MG1050 Introduction to Marketing: 3 credits (5 weeks)
This course involves an integrated analysis of the role of marketing within the total organization. Specific attention is given to the analysis of factors affecting consumer behavior, the identification of marketing variables, the development and use of marketing strategies, and the discussion of international marketing.
NT2010 Life of Christ/Gospels: 3 credits (5 weeks)
A study of the Gospels focusing upon the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection, with a view toward applying His life-changing principles to one’s everyday life.
ET1040 Business Ethics: 3 credits (5 weeks)
Norms, values, and beliefs related to business conduct.
