OCU’s Disaster Management Program Now Listed With FEMA

After almost 2 years of program design, a full program description of the Disaster Management and Relief Program at Ohio Christian University is now listed with The FEMA Higher Education Program.

FEMAThe FEMA Higher Education Program has the aim of promoting college-based emergency management education for future emergency managers and other interested personnel. The primary goal of the FEMA Emergency Management Higher Education Program is to work with colleges and universities, emergency management professionals, and stakeholder organizations to help create an emergency management system of sustained, replicable capability and disaster loss reduction through formal education, experiential learning, practice, and experience centered on mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from the full range of natural, technological and intentional hazards which confront communities, States and the Nation.

Thad Hicks, the director of the Disaster Management program at OCU stated, "I spoke to a student the other day who was applying to another disaster management program at another university in Ohio, because they didn't know OCU was offering Emergency Management."  Hicks added, "Having our program listed with the FEMA will put OCU on the map in regard to Emergency Management university programs."
