OCU Approved to Offer Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Ohio Christian University (OCU) is now approved to offer the RN-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program. This approval was recently obtained from the Higher Learning Commission, the regional accreditation organization. Beginning in August, the RN-BSN program will be offered through OCU’s convenient College of Adult and Graduate Studies with the option of taking online or one-night-a-week evening classes.
Dr. Tim Eades, Vice President for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies, stated, “This career-focused program was designed with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education quality standards.” Eades added, “Students can continue to work full-time while completing a flexible program of study completely online or at one of our many campus locations.”
The RN-BSN program is for those who are already a Registered Nurse and want to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The program refines the practicing nurse’s skills and broadens understanding of the needed nursing roles in complex healthcare environments. Many nurses complete a bachelor’s degree to advance their career, give themselves options for lateral mobility, or simply to better themselves. Many hospitals report a shortage of nursing supervisors. Other areas where graduates of this program can work include private physician practices, community clinics and agencies, research organizations, and pharmaceutical firms.
OCU President Mark Smith said, “OCU is happy to serve our community by offering an additional program that meets workforce needs and fosters our mission to develop Christian servant-leaders.”
