OCU Now Offers Dual Masters Degrees in Business and Ministry
Ohio Christian University's uniquie dual masters degree in business and ministry officially starts this month with the first online cohort scheduled to begin on August 27, and the first onsite cohort on September 29 in Circleville.
OCU's dual degree program allows students to earn two masters degrees simultaneously: the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts (MA) with a major in Ministry. It fills a void that exists in academic preparation for ministers and lay people, addressing the needs of constituencies who serve as “tent-making” pastors or lead in the financial aspects of their ministry as well as business people who desire to fully engage in ministry understanding and opportunities at their churches and ministry organizations.
Dr. Debra Grimm, Director of Business Programs, and Rev. Scott Marsee, Director of Ministry Programs, have collaborated to ensure that students are receiving the foundation necessary to successfully lead from both perspectives:
“The dual MBA/MA in ministry degree will provide academic preparation that meets the needs of today's ministry leaders as they address the unique challenges of ministry today. Additionally, students holding leadership roles in both business and ministry will now have the ability to increase their preparedness for both ministerial and organizational challenges through an integrated study approach.”
The dual masters program requires 57 semester credits (19 courses), taken in about two and a half years to complete all coursework in a lock-step, one-course-at-a-time cohort model used in the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. Students may choose from several onsite locations for face-to-face instruction, the online learning environment, or a blend of both. OCU has designed the program to accommodate the adult learner through an accelerated program with convenience, affordability, and user friendliness. Students will master skills and competencies to develop cross-functional solutions that can be applied to actual business and ministry problems.
