Work Study

The Federal Work-Study program makes it possible for certain financially eligible students to earn money while attending college. Students earn wages based on the number of hours worked, and any wages earned are paid directly to the student, after his or her school bill is paid in full. Students who are eligible for Federal Work-Study are not guaranteed jobs. The Federal Work Study program is currently available only to students in the traditional undergraduate program.

Responsibilities of the Student

1. I NEED A JOB!  HOW DO I GET STARTED?

In order to be considered for employment, a student must complete the FAFSA form by the published deadline each year and show sufficient financial need.  A student must also have a work study job application on file with the Financial Aid Office.  Applications can be found on OCU's website at www.ohiochristian.edu/financial-aid/forms, the work study folder located in the G: Drive, or in the Financial Aid Office.

2.  WHERE DO I GO?

All completed work study applications MUST be turned in to the FINANCIAL AID OFFICE in order to be considered for a position on campus.  The Financial Aid Office is located in the Welcome Center across from Admissions.  Applications can also be e-mailed to: rfracassa@ohiochristian.edu.

3.  NOW WHAT?

Upon receiving your application, the Financial Aid Office will determine whether or not you are eligible for work study.  If eligible, your application will be immediately scanned and saved in a folder that all campus departments may view.  Upon a campus job becoming available, a department may read your application and contact you for an interview.

4. AFTER THE INTERVIEW...

Following the interview, the Supervisor will contact the Federal Work Study Coordinator and provide the name of the student he/she wishes to hire.

5. CONGRATULATIONS!

The Federal Work Study Coordinator or Supervisor will contact the student and arrange for all necessary paperwork to be completed.  Paperwork that must be completed includes the signing of the Confidentiality Form and Student Employment Contract as well as tax paperwork, which must be completed in the Business Office.  Your supervisor should have the Confidentiality Form and Employment Contract for you to sign.  ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE STUDENT CAN BEGIN WORKING!

6.  WORK ASSIGNMENT...

As soon as all paperwork is complete, the student will then be instructed to meet with the Department Supervisor for her/his work assignment.

 7.  TIME KEEPING...

Once a work schedule has been determined, the student is required to record hours worked on an electronic time sheet that will be provided by his/her supervisor.  At the end of each week, the time sheet must be signed by the Supervisor and submitted to the Federal Work Study Coordinator prior to Noon Each Monday. Failure to submit completed timesheets on time will result in a delay of pay. A downloadable timesheet is available at www.ohiochristian.edu/financial-aid/forms.

8.   WHEN DO I GET PAID?

Students are paid every two weeks and each employee's paycheck will be placed in his/her assigned mailbox in the Campus Post Office located in The Graham Administrative Building.  Please be aware that a percentage of your pay may be applied to your student bill. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the Student Development Office or Financial Aid.
