OCU Disaster Management and Relief Drive to Help Typhoon Haiyan Victims

Typhoon Haiyan, a Category-5 storm and one of the most powerful ever recorded, reached the central islands of the Philippines on Friday, November 8th. As many as 10,000 lives may have been lost and hundreds of thousands of survivors lack food, water, shelter and medicine.

Students in the Disaster Management & Relief program are organizing a "donation center" where anyone wishing to provide items needed by the survivors of this disaster, can do so by dropping them off on the second floor of the Maxwell Center across from the cyber cafe. This event began Friday, Nov 15 and will continue through 8:00 AM Friday, Nov 22nd.

All donations will be taken to Matthew 25: Ministries in Cincinnati OH, where they are preparing disaster relief supplies for people affected by this disaster and shipping them out to the Philippines.

Tim Mettey, CEO and Disaster Relief Coordinator of Matthew 25: Ministries commented, “This is a disaster of major proportions. The damage and loss of life is comparable to the Southeast Asia Tsunami in 2004. This will be a long-term relief effort for us. We are working with several partners in the Philippines to get critical aid to the victims as quickly as possible.”
