OCU Baseball Advances to the Second Round
MASON, Ohio - Trailing the Rams of North Central at the bottom of the fifth inning, Stefan Vasiloff blasted a three run homer to help Ohio Christian take the lead 5-4.
The Blazers were able to score one more run from Ronnie Goodwin in the bottom of the sixth to put them up 6-4 going into the seventh and final inning. Holding the Rams scoreless in the top of the seventh secured the win for the Blazers, advancing them to the next round.
Other players to record one hit a piece were Michael Blevins, Kelton Sines, and Ronnie Goodwin. Christian Lee, Max Ray, and Brandon Zimmerman had one RBI each.
On the mound for the Blazers, and getting the win, was Brandon Metzger. Metzger was able to complete the game pitching all seven innings, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing twelve hits with four runs scoring.
Coach Greg Bigam comments, "Brandon Metzger didn't have his best stuff on the hill today, but he was able to fight through it and became more comfortable as the game went on." Coach Bigam also added, "The start of the game was very frustrating, but we [coaches] were very pleased with how the team picked it up and really battled to the end."
The Trailblazers pulled off a close win to advance to the second round of the 2011 NCCAA DII World Series. With the final score of 6-4, they will now face #7 Dallas Christian on May 12, 2011 at 1:00pm (EST) at Prasco Park in Mason, OH.
