OCU Baseball Gets First Ever Win Over UC Clermont
The Blazers picked up one of their biggest wins ever with a 3-1 win over perennial power UC Clermont in Cincinnati on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader. OCU fell in the second game by an 11-1 count.
Newcomer Christian Lee was the pitching hero in the big win going 6 and two thirds of an inning for the win. Lee pitched 6 innings of shut out ball against the potent Cougars, but loaded the bases on walks and hit batsmen. Lee walked in a run after two outs and Brandon Metzgar came on to get the final out with the tieing runs on base to preserve the win.
Stefan Vasiloff was the offensive hero with a bases loaded double to knock in all three runs for OCU in the 5th inning. Adam Peters added two hits and Ryan Black one in the first game.
In the nightcap, the Blazers struggled on the mound giving up 12 walks to put themselves in a huge hole. Ron Goodwin, Vasiloff, and Kelton Sines shared the pitching duties. The Blazers actually led early in game two when Michael Blevins doubled, Black reached and Vasiloff singled to start the first inning. OCU had a run in and two on with nobody out but didn't score anymore.
"Lee pitched great in game one and kept UC off balance. We played good defense and Stef got a big hit for our runs, summed up Coach Greg Bigam."" The second game we just couldn't find the strike zone and it proved deadly against a good team. Hopefully this win over a team that run ruled us three times last year will show us what we are capable of if we throw strikes."
OCU will host Johnson Bible for two games at noon on Saturday at the VA Stadium in Chillicothe. The Blazers are now 7-7 on the year.
