OCU Baseball Repeats as Mid-East Regional Champs
The OCU Men's Baseball team traveled to Knoxville, TN to compete for the Mid-East Regional Title against Johnson Bible College. The Trailblazers were able to hold the Preachers of Johnson Bible off for both wins, sending the Blazers to the National Tournament for the second year in a row.
Game one ended with a 7-0 victory, giving the Blazers the advantage going into the second game of a best-of-three match. The win was rallied with great offense by multiple players. There were 11 hits in which Michael Blevins, Kelton Sines, Ronnie Goodwin, and Brandon Zimmerman had 2 hits each. Brandon Metzger pitched a complete game, only allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.
Game two was a closer match with the score 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Coach Bigam comments, "It was a tight game until we were able to score 6 runs in the 4th to break it open 8-1. We kept the lead from there and continued scoring to get the win 13-2." Among the team, Ryan Black, Michael Blevins, Stefan Vasiloff and Adam Peters recorded multiple hits. Ryan Black completed game two on the mound for the Blazers, giving them the win and closing out the Mid-East Regional Tournament.
The Trailblazers are now 14-13 heading into the National Tournament. The Blazers will travel to Mason, OH to compete in the 2011 NCCAA DII World Series on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Prasco Park.
