OCU Baseball Wins Over OSU Mansfield On the Road

For the second time in a week the Blazers Baseball Squad knocked off OSU Mansfield. OCU went on the road and beat the Mavericks 14-11 in Galion, Ohio. The Blazers built a 10-2 lead and then had to hang on, withstanding several errors and a tough strike zone for the win.

Logan Creech and Michael Blevins shared the mound with Blevins getting credit for the win. "Actually Logan probably pitched his best of the year, but a suddenly tough strike zone and a couple of errors by our defense caused some frustration and he couldn't get out of the fourth inning, commented Coach Greg Bigam." Blevins gave up three runs in the fifth, but only allowed 1 run in the final two innings to gain the win.

Offensively OCU pounded out 13 hits with the big ones being a bases clearing triple by Ronnie Goodwin and a bases clearing double off the fence by Adam Peters. Preston Vest contributed two huge rbi's with a gound out and clutch single. Ryan Black knocked in two late runs with a double and Blevins reached base all five times on 2 hits and 3 walks. Blevins, Vasiloff, Sines, Peters, and Goodwin all had two hits each on the day.

OCU is now 6-6 on the year and travel to UC Clermont on Thursday for a doubleheader. "We are happy with the win and we did a nice job of handling a lot of frustration and adversity in the middle of the game to recover and get the win. We are hitting better, but to play with the top teams we have a ways to go, but the potential is there, summed up Coach Bigam."
