All-State Guard Wesley Russell Signs With OCU

All-Ohio Guard Wesley Russell Signs With Men's Basketball

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The Ohio Christian University athletic department is pleased to announce the addition of Wesley Russell to the men's basketball team.  Russell comes to OCU after a star studded prep career at Centennial High School in Columbus, Ohio where he helped lead his team to a 15-7 overall record and an 11-3 mark in conference play.

Capable of playing every position on the floor, Russell brings a unique skill set to the court where he is a gifted ball handler, scorer, rebounder, and passer.  During his senior season he averaged 16.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game and earned a reputation for being a triple double threat on any given night.  He tallied two trible doubles during his senior year in big wins against Columbus South and Columbus Brookhaven.  For his efforts on the hardwood, Russell was honored both as a 1st Team All-City League selection and 1st Team All-District Selection in addition to being voted All-Ohio.

"I chose OCU because of the family aspect where everyone on the team acts as one," said Russell.  "I hope to win a national championship and get my jersey retired someday.  I would also like to thank my mother for all that she has done to invest in me and help get me to this point in my life."

Russell joins an OCU team that finished 5th in the nation last year at the NCCAA National Tournament.  With key additions like Russell joining a seasoned group of returning players, the Blazers will look to make a run at the National Title this year.

Wesley Russell drives the lane against Beechcroft High School.  Russell finished the game with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists leading Centennial to a 66-62 victory.
