Men's Soccer Sign Goal Keeper from GCC

The Men's soccer program signed it's second recruit of the off-season and they went to a familiar place, Grove City Christian.  Sam Hatfield was the starting goal keeper at GCC for the past 3 years starting over 40 games.  Sam follows former GCC grad Josh Slone to OCU.  "Sam will help bring more competition in a spot where we have lived with only one goal keeper my first 3 years.  On top of that I think we will see him grow in our system and be a major part of OCU soccer.  So this was a big deal for us at OCU", mentioned Coach Josh Murton.

Sam holds the schools record in career saves (713) and career shutouts (19).  His play was good enough to be named 2nd Team All-Conference his sophomore season and 1st Team All-Conference his Junior and Senior years.  He was also named 3rd Team All-District his senior season.  Sam, also a product of FC Phoenix located in Columbus, also earned letters in football, basketball and baseball while at GCC.  "Sam is tall and has a good work ethic.  He will fit in well with our close nit group" added Coach Murton.

OCU soccer has increasingly improved over the past 3 years and last year finished #2 in the nation.  In those 3 years OCU has brought in 35 new players and they have helped bring the program to a National prominence.  The men will start 2-a-days on August 14th in preparation for the 2011 season.
