OCU Soccer falls to #1 Clearwater
The men's soccer program came out not backing down to the #1 team in the nation, Clearwater Christian. At half, the score was 0-0 to continue the scoreless minutes started in 2009 between the two teams to 155 minutes. In 2009, both OCU and Clearwater faced each other in the National Semi-Finals only to lose in PK's.
The second half look to fall the same way until the 60th minute when Clearwater received a ball in the penalty area from a deflected clear from OCU goalkeeper, Steven Fabian. Tyler Spraul from Clearwater finished the deflection into the OCU goal to break the tie. A second goal came soon thereafter to give Clearwater a 2-0 lead. The third goal came off of a PK when Fabian came to receive a ball and a Clearwater player was hit him and given a straight red card. That allowed Clearwater to not only take a 3-0 lead but also play with a man up. "It was a big point in the game. We were going toe to toe with em and that let the air out of the tires", mentioned Coach Murton. Clearwater would put one more in to finish the scoring 0-4.
Next up for OCU will be a make up date with Crown College at Johnson Bible College on October 9th at 9pm.
