Circleville High School Percussion Section Grows Under Leadership of OCU Music Education Student

Under the direction of Timothy Hoagland, an Ohio Christian University music education major, the Circleville High School Percussion Section has grown tremendously over the past two years. The number of students participating in percussion activities at Circleville High School has more than doubled, and new equipment, including marching drums, a marimba, and a vibraphone, has been purchased.

This past marching season was the most successful in the history of Circleville High School. The Percussion Section earned their all-time high score at the Lancaster High School Band of Gold Invitational on September 28 and won the Best in Class Percussion Award. In addition, the students enjoyed clinics from several renowned percussion instructors, including Jay Fant from Liberty Union High School and Chris Carmean from Pickerington High School North. The marching season concluded with an outstanding performance at the Ohio Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals in early November.

Musical growth will continue during the winter in the form of Concert Percussion Ensembles and private lessons. The Percussion Ensembles will perform at various events throughout the winter and spring, including the District XV Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event at Pickerington High School North on January 18, 2014, and An Evening of Percussion II in early May.

The Music Department is thrilled to have Timothy Hoagland using his musical talents and leadership skills to benefit the community while completing his degree in Music Education.
