Solo Hour Recital Showcases Outstanding Music Student Performances

On Thursday, October 31, Ohio Christian University’s Music Department hosted the Solo Hour Student Recital, which showcased solo performances by music students in the Music Education or Worship Leadership programs.

Vocalists performed selections ranging from the familiar African-American spirituals “Give Me Jesus” and “Deep River” to classical selections such as “Come Ready and See Me” and “Orpheus With His Lute.”  Instrumental performances included selections on the clarinet, piano, trumpet, marimba, and violin. One highlight of the evening was the inaugural performance by percussion major Timothy Hoagland on the university’s new Malletech Stiletto, 5-octave marimba.

“Solo Hour Recital was a huge success this semester. The level of technical mastery and overall musicianship of every student performer was extraordinary.” said Dr. John Anthony, Music Department Chair, “OCU is blessed to have such dedicated students who are working so diligently to develop the talents God has given them. I am looking forward with great anticipation to the Chamber Music Concert that will be taking place on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m. in Detty Chapel.  The Chamber Music Concert will display our music student’s ability to perform challenging music in a small group setting.”  Admission to the Chamber Music Concert is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Dr. Anthony at or by phone: 740-420-5905.

Students who performed on the concert program were Kelsey Owens, Jacob Grimmett, Fayth Lore, Donald Glenn II, Brittany Lovell, Joshua Harshbarger, Alyse Copeland, Timothy Hoagland, Michael Anderson, Abigail Ailes, Rachael Lynch, and Andrew Compton.
