Lady Trailblazers Add to Winning Streak

The Ohio Christian University women's basketball team picked up two more wins this weekend against Johnson Bible College and OSU-Marion. On Friday night, OCU hosted the Lady Evangels from Johnson Bible. After a slow start, the Lady Trailblazers used their tenacious full court defense in the second half, winning by a final score of 79-48. Michel Hughes led all scorers with 23 points, 7 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Charie Hicks added 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman forward Sarah Peters played a solid game in the paint, pulling down ten boards and scoring 8 points. Freshman center Kelsey White led Johnson with 16 points.

On Saturday, the Lady Blazers traveled to face OSU-Marion. The Lady Blazers came out firing, taking a 41-24 halftime lead. Then they used a 16 point run in the first four minutes of the second half to take a commanding lead and win by a final score of 73-47. OCU freshman forward Rosalyn Fleming led all scorers with 21 points and 9 rebounds. The Trailblazers' guard trio of Michel Hughes, Charie Hicks, and Tova Black combined for 36 points, 20 assists, and 14 steals.

The wins over the weekend extended OCU's record to 13-7 overall and 4-1 in the NCCAA Mid-East Region. The Lady Blazers travel to Cincinnati to face the College of Mount St. Joseph's on Tuesday night, and then they will host Miami-Hamilton on Saturday.
