Lady Trailblazers Extinguish Flames

Ohio Christian University beat the Flames of Free Will Baptist Bible College in three sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-12. The Flames got up early in the first set 4-2, but OCU came back to tie it up at 5-5 and never looked back. In the second set, Free Will got up 8-3, but the Trailblazers were able to regroup after a timeout and came out strong with a 22-1 run behind the serving of Junior Brittany Martin who earned 6 aces and Sophomore Marissa Tackett who added 3 aces.
"Our focus for Saturday's match was to keep our energy level up and stay aggressive throughout the entire match," Head Coach Wes Brothers said. "I was pleased with the team's overall performance."
Compared to the match against Free Will last year, the Trailblazers increased their hitting percentage by 20%.
Senior Marlaina Shotsky led the team with 11 kills followed closely by Tackett who had 10. Martin added 9 kills and had a career high 8 aces breaking her previous career high set against Appalachian Bible College October 22, 2007.
Ohio Christian University has three home matches against regional opponents this week beginning Tuesday night at 6 pm versus Kentucky Christian University. OCU will be back in the Leadership Center at 7 pm on Friday to play Johnson Bible College and again at 1 pm on Saturday to play Crown College.
