OCU Hosts 7th Annual Festival of Carols and Messiah

Ohio Christian University hosted the seventh annual Festival of Carols and Messiah last Saturday evening, December 1. Performers consisted of the Ohio Christian University Chorale, Community Choir, and live 40-piece orchestra under the direction of Dr. Rodney Sones.  This event, sponsored by Ohio Christian University, welcomed approximately 700 guests to the campus, greeting them with many beautiful Christmas lights with the “Festival of Lights” display made possible by many Pickaway County Chamber members as well as individuals from the community.

University guests enjoyed many beautiful Christmas musical selections, including Christmas Day in the Morning, Sing Noel, Run to the Manger, and several others.  The orchestra entertained the audience with renditions of Sleigh Ride, March of the Toys, and a trio of trumpeter’s presenting Bugler’s Holiday.  The second half of the concert was a stirring presentation of select Recitatives, Airs, and Choruses from Handel’s Messiah.  Joining the choir were guest soloists Dr. Dione Bennett, Dr. Carolyn Redman, and Dr. Andrew Blosser.

OCU President, Dr. Mark Smith, along with the faculty, staff and student body presented this special evening as a gift to the Pickaway/Circleville community.  In lieu of ticket charge, guests were asked to bring a canned food item which were given to PICCA Clearing House to help provide food for needy families in the Pickaway County area.

We hope you will make Ohio Christian University part of your holiday festivities by coming to the campus to see our “Festival of Lights” display which will be available until Jan. 1.
