OCU Hosts Brass Concert

On April 10 and 11, the music department at Ohio Christian University hosted a brass festival featuring international trumpet soloist Fred Mills, the graduate brass quintet from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the Mid-Ohio Brass Ensemble.The festival included a brass clinic and two concerts. The first concert, which took place on Thursday, April 10th in Detty Chapel, was a solo recital featuring trumpet soloist Fred Mills and the CCM graduate brass quintet. The second concert, a premier concert by the Mid-Ohio Brass Ensemble conducted by Fred Mills, was held in the Circleville High School auditorium on the evening of April 11th.

About W. Fred Mills

Trumpeter W. Fred Mills has enjoyed 25 years of performances in the great concert halls of Europe, North America, and Asia and has made over 40 recordings as a member of The Canadian Brass on ACA, RCA, Sony, BMG, and Philips labels. He has been instrumental in changing the standard repertoire for brass chamber music with over fifty arrangements and transcriptions for the brass quintet, including the highly acclaimed "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" by J. S. Bach. During his 25 years with the quintet, the Canadian Brass became recognized as the world's premier brass ensemble. After retiring from the Canadian Brass in September of 1996, he joined the University of Georgia School of Music brass faculty as a Professor of Trumpet and Brass Chamber Music. In addition to teaching trumpet and coaching and conducting brass ensembles at the University of Georgia, Mr. Mills maintains an international performing schedule as a trumpet soloist, conductor, teacher, and adjudicator.
