OCU Men Ranked #1 in the Nation
For the first time in OCU Athletics, a sport is ranked #1 in the Nation. The men's soccer team has achieved this feat with a 6-0-0 record. The rankings come out every Tuesday and the men moved from #5 to #1 in this weeks ranks. "It's a long season and we have a lot more to achieve", responded Coach Murton on being ranked #1. He continued, "ask me if I am happy after the season is done, and if we are ranked #1 then, then I will be happy."
The men's soccer team has gone through a major transformation over the past 6 months since Coach Murton has been signed as Coach. The most amount of incoming Freshmen have come to OCU to play soccer including leading goal scorers Emanuel Harris and Dexter Chapman. After the big recruiting season the men jumped off to a great start of the season beating teams for the first time in school history. On top of that, the men brought the first national player recognition to OCU Athletics in the Player of the Week honors. Emanuel Harris was awarded this on week #1 and #3.
More importantly, 5 players have come to Christ, which shows that there are more important things than soccer going on with the program. With all this success Coach Murton was asked if he had envisioned this to happen. "Um, no not really. I had hopes of progress but not like this. We have been blessed and I can't thank God enough for all things. But I also think He wants us to keep striving, to keep pushing ourselves to be even better. So we have a lot of work ahead of us and that is good."
