OCU student and athlete, David Nunez, has been appointed to West Point's class of 2020

OCU Student Appointed to West Point

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — David Nunez, a current international student at Ohio Christian University, was recently appointed to the West Point Military Academy.  He will be a part of West Point’s graduating class of 2020.

The process from applicant to appointment at West Point Military academy is an arduous one. According to their website, acceptance to West Point is an “exceptional honor reserved for our nation’s most promising students,” requiring not only an excellent GPA, but also unimpeachable character and exceptional leadership skills.

Dr. Hank Kelly, OCU Provost and US Air Force Academy graduate, said, "David has represented OCU well as a student and member of our security team. We are sorry to see him leave prior to graduating, but understand his desire to receive a military education and become an officer like his father. I am very proud of him."

West Point receives thousands of applicants on a yearly basis, but only few are admitted to the program. For international students, even fewer spots are available – speaking volumes to the process Nunez faced to get in.

Dr. Thad Hicks, Director of the Emergency and Disaster Management program at OCU, had nothing but positive remarks regarding Nunez’s acceptance, saying “David is exceptional young man, who will certainly represent himself, his family, and his country with fierce pride and the upmost respect.”

“He was chosen over 1,200 applicants,” says Dr. Dave Garrison, former Dean at Ohio Christian University’s School of Business and Government and one of Nunez’s references during his appointment process, “This is quite an accomplishment.”

The United States Military Academy was founded on March 16, 1802, and is located in Hudson Valley. There are approximately 4,000 cadets in attendance currently, ranging from age 17-23.

As one of the nation’s fastest growing universities, Ohio Christian University has approximately 4,000 students enrolled in traditional residential, online, and adult programs. OCU prepares students to serve effectively in the church and society by providing a holistic, Christ-centered, biblically integrated education.
