Trailblazers Witness The Honoring Of Local War Heroes
On Sunday afternoon, September 27, OCU's men's basketball team visited the Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base. Being able to tour the base and meet fulltime and traditional guardsmen, Congressman Steve Austria, and Colonel Steve McMahon was a great experience for the team. Most importantly, they were privileged to attend the Hometown Hero Awards Ceremony where over 600 121st Air Refueling Wing members were honored for their service to our country. These heroes received awards for their service on combating the War on Terrorism since 9-11-01. OCU's own Captain Greg Bryant, who is starting his second year as assistant coach to the men's basketball team, received a Hometown Hero Award for serving in Iraq in 2004. He has been a guardsman for nineteen years and has served full time for the past eight years. "We are constantly looking for opportunities to grow our young men spiritually, mentally and physically. Honoring our local heroes is a great place to teach patriotism and help our young men know that American sports are just one of the freedoms we enjoy because of their great sacrifice. Also, I am very proud to work closely with a fine Ohio Guardsman Captain Greg Bryant." Says OCU head coach Curtis Christopher. Go Trailblazers!
