"Ohio Christian University President Among 42 Ohio College Presidents Traveling to Washington, D.C. Tomorrow for Senator Brown's Seventh Annual Ohio College Presidents Conference
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ohio Christian University President Mark A. Smith will be among the 42 Ohio college and university presidents convening in Washington tomorrow for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) seventh annual Ohio College Presidents Conference. Brown’s forum – the first of its kind for College Presidents in Ohio – brings together leaders from two-year, four-year, private, public, and community colleges to discuss shared challenges and goals for students and institutions of higher learning.
“Our seventh annual conference builds on our state’s legacy of linking education with economic prosperity, which in turn creates a stronger middle class,” Brown said. We are coming together to ensure that every Ohio student has the opportunity to pursue higher education regardless of where they live or how much money their families make.”
This year’s conference will focus on making college affordable and accessible, for all Ohio students. Attendees will hear remarks by Congressman George Miller, the senior Democratic member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Rohit Chopra, Student Loan Ombudsman for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Jamie Studley, the Acting Undersecretary for the Department of Education. Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County will serve as the keynote speaker.
“Ohio’s institutions of higher education are producing the next generation of scientists and lawyers, mathematicians and teachers,” Brown continued. “It is their work – and their commitment to strengthening the entire pipeline from cradle to career – that will ensure our economy continues to grow and succeed. That’s why this annual conference is so important,” Brown said.
Attendees will also meet with several members of the Ohio Congressional delegation and participate in panel discussions regarding the Administration’s higher education ratings proposal and the role service plays in a holistic education. Brown will deliver the closing remarks.
