Baseball Blazers Split with Clark State
Ohio Chrisitan split a doubleheader with one of the OCAC league favorites, losing the first game with two outs in the seventh and then turning the tables winning the nightcap with two outs in the seventh.
OCU won the second game in their final at bat when Tae Spell walked, stole his third base of the game and then scored on a two out single by Kelton Sines.
The Blazers lost the opener 7-3 when Clark State scored 4 times in the last inning to break a 3-3 tie. "I will take credit for that loss, stated Coach Greg Bigam. Steven Vogelgesang pitched well again and had only given up three runs and three hits but was tiring and I should have had someone ready to come in when Steven tired in the seventh."
OCU played small ball with a perfectly executed squeeze by Scott Mazarro and got a big rbi triple from Michael Blevins in game one.
In the nightcap at the VA, Brandon Zimmerman gave the Blazers an early 2-0 lead with a two rbi single in the second inning. OCU added two more in the fifth without a hit, getting a walk, hit batter, sacrifice bunt, ground out and wild pitch to plate two.
Kelton Sines went 4 and a third innings and Michael Blevins finished on the hill and got credit for his second win of the season.
"We made a few errors in the second game to let them back and tie it, but to score a game winner in our final at bat was huge, " added Bigam. Tae Spell joined us after basketball season and stole 5 bases in the twinbill to help our offense." The Blazers travel to NAIA power Cedarville on Tuesday for another doubleheader.
