Blazers Fall in Trio of Games to NAIA Cumberlands
WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The OCU Trailblazers (10-30) took on NAIA affiliate, University of the Cumberlands (29-17), in a trio of weekend road games and came away without a win in three tries.
The series started with a doubleheader on Friday and Cumberlands ran away with game one by a score of 14-0. Adam Quiles scattered 5 hits in 7 innings, striking out 8 OCU batters in the shutout win. Tyler Goff went 2 for 3, connecting on 2 of the 5 Trailblazer hits in the game.
The Trailblazers played better in game two, trailing 3-2 after the top of the 5th inning. Ryan Black pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 5 runs and striking out two. Avery Sneed and Cory Hanner tallied the only 2 hits for OCU in the game.
On Saturday morning, the third and final game of the series was played with Cumberlands once again winning 8-2. Cory Haner and Evan Werner fueled the OCU offense as each had one RBI. The OCU defense struggled, committing 3 errors which led to 3 runs. Jon Bobea pitched 5 innings for Cumberlands, striking out 6 batters and allowing 2 runs in the victory.
OCU is back in action this afternoon with a game against West Virginia Tech.
