CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Baseball squad rebounded from a doubleheader loss in Cincinnati (UC Clermont) on Thursday with a solid 7-1 win over regional foe Johnson University on Saturday.
The story of the game was the pitching of Brandon Metzgar who spun a 2 hitter with 9 strikeouts in going the distance. The only run for Johnson was unearned. "That was the Metzgar of last year. One walk and he kept the ball down," summed up Coach Brian Bigam.
The Blazers scored a run in the third to take a 2 to 1 lead, and then Ryan Black knocked a double off the wall in the fifth to make it 3 to 1. OCU scored 4 more times in the 6th to put the game away. Max Ray led OCU with 2 hits, while Avery Sneed and Ronnie Goodwin cracked run producing hits on the day. "We didn't really pepper the baseball today, but on a chilly and wet day we used some small ball and our speed to produce most of our runs," said Bigam.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out. OCU travels Monday night to Dayton Dragons Stadium for a game with NCAA Division 2 Cedarville. Proceeds go to a charitable cause.
