OCU Baseball Adds Win Over OSU Mansfield

It was a case of good news bad news in Mansfield on Tuesday as the OCU Baseball team picked up their first ever win over OSU Mansfield 14 to 6 in the first game of a doubleheader, but lost a chance for a sweep when the Blazers lost the second game 8-7 in extra innings.

"We battled all day in a bright sun, high winds, and with limited pitching. The ballpark had no restrooms and no water but we did a great job in what was a long day," summed up Coach Greg Bigam. The Blazers banged out 29 hits in the two games. Adam Peters led the attack in game one with 3 hits and 4 rbi's including a long home run blast over the left field fence. Tae Spell added three hits, while Steve Vogelgesang, Michael Blevins, and Scott Mazzaro all added two hits a piece to the win. Kelton Sines went 5 innings for the win with relief help from Vogelgesang.

Game two saw a 7-3 OCU lead evaporate when OSU tied the game at 7. Neither team scored in the 7th or 8th innings. The Mavericks punched across a run in the bottom of the 9th as darkness set in to pull out the win 8-7. Max Ray and Bryan Keaton each had three hits to lead the OCU offense. Blevins, Sines, and Mazzaro alll had two more hits a piece in the second game. "Ron Goodwin gave us a great pitching effort and Vogelgesang volunteered to pitch an inning to help us out," said Bigam. Adam Peters came on and got them out in the 8th but we just couldn't get a run across to end it."

The Blazers are now 9-9 on the year and are scheduled to plau OU Chillicothe at home on Thursday and play a big doubleheader with Johnson Bible on Saturday in Mason, Ohio. Next Monday's game with Cedarville has been changed to a single nine inning game at the VA Stadium in Chillicothe beginning at 1:30.
