OCU Baseball Sets Records in Thumping of Freewill

The Ohio Christian Baseball Squad had the hot bats on a cool evening at VA Stadium in Chillicothe, banging out a school record 17 hits and scoring a record 23 runs in thumping Freewill Baptist 23-4 Monday night.

The win also set another Blazer Baseball mark with the sixth win of the season marking the most wins in a season for OCU Baseball. "It was a team evening with 10 different players getting a hit and 12 players scoring a run," commented Coach Greg Bigam. Freewill is a little short handed with only nine healthy players but we also played our most complete game of the season."

Steven Vogelgesang got his third win of the year by going 6 innings giving up just 4 hits and four runs, while striking out 10. Tae Spell pitched for the first time and struck out the side in one inning of work. On offense there were lots of stars, led by Scot Mazzaro's three hits, Josh McGrady with two big hits and Max Ray with a double, triple and 5 rbi's. Adam Peters, Matt Bumpus, and Tae Spell all had two hits a piece as well. Bryan Keaton and Ridge Johnston both picked up their first hits of the season.

The Trailblazers are now 6-6 on the year and are ranked nationally. OCU goes to Clark State Wednesday and plays their first game at OCU on Saturday when they host Lincoln Christian of Illinois in a doubleheader.
