OCU Baseball Suffers 13-1 Loss to WVU-Tech
WILLIAMSBURG, KY - On Saturday afternoon, the Trailblazers (10-31) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. OCU hung tight heading into the fifth inning against NAIA affiliate, West Virginia Tech (21-25), trailing only 2-1.
The Golden Bears responded in the next two innings with 11 unanswered runs and never looked back, going on to win 13-1.
In the 4th inning, Jose Soto of WVU-Tech launched a two-run homer over the right field fence. The blast was Soto’s third on the year.
The OCU defense stuggled in the 5th and 6th innings, allowing 11 runs. The Blazer defense ended up committing 6 errors in the contest.
Ryan Black led the OCU offense as he went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Garrett Von Berge was the only other OCU player to tally a hit as he connected on a double.
WVU-Tech freshman Tommy Weaver picked up his first collegiate career win in the victory while Nathan Wheeler was charged with the loss. Jonathan Prince was credited with the save.
OCU is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to take on Wilmington College at 4:00 PM.
