OCU Baseball Sweeps Johnson Bible in Cincinnati
The OCU Basebal team kept it rolling on Saturday as they traveled to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, site of this year's NCCAA World Series, and swept regional foe Johnson Bible College by scores of 9-4 and 8-4. The sweep of the two games will hopefully clinch the number one seed for the Blazers at the regional tournament in two weeks. The wins give OCU Baseball a 6-1 record in the region.
It was the pitching tandem of Steven Vogelgesang and Michael Blevins that led the day. Both Blazer pitchers picked up their 5th wins of the season with complete game performances. "Vogelgesang and Blevins both pitched pretty well, and had to survive some shaky defense today, commented Coach Greg Bigam. Five of Johnson's eight runs were unearned as we had some untimely errors."
Offensively just about everyone contributed and the tone was set in inning one when Tae Spell, Max Ray, Blevins, and Kelton Sines all cracked hits and all scored to give OCU a quick 4-0 lead. Ray, Blevins, Adam Peters, and Bryan Keaton all had two hits each with the red hot Peters driving in 3 more runs.
Spell, Blevins, and Josh McGrady led the hit parade in game two with two hits a piece. Bigam felt the Blazers aggressive base running was a key in game two. "We didn't get a lot of key hits and we relaxed with an early lead but I thought this might have been our best "team" win of the year with everyone contributing."
The Blazers are now 11-9 on the year and play Division 1 NCCAA Cedarville in Chillicothe on Monday at 1:30.
