OCU Baseball Wins First Regional Championship
The OCU Baseball Team added to the great OCU Athletic Season Wednesday with an 11-1 win over Freewill Baptist to capture the Mid East Regional Championship at Chillicothe's VA Stadium. The win sends the Blazers to the National Baseball Championships in Mason, Ohio May 12-15.
Pitching and defense again led the Blazers with Michael Blevins pitching a complete game for the win. Blevins gave up 8 hits and walked no one while striking out four Flames in six innings. On offense, Max Ray and Adam Peters again swung the hot bats for OCU. Ray cracked three hits with a double, while Peters smacked two doubles and a single. Both knocked in two runs while Kelton Sines also drove home two runners with a hit. Ron Goodwin, Tae Spell, Bryan Keaton, and Blevins all added base hits for the victorious Blazers. The most amazing stat for OCU may have been the fact that they stole 6 bases on the day.
The win was the 15th of the year for baseball and the first ever regional championship in baseball. The only negative to the day was the absence of the regional banner for the players to bring home. It was reportedly mailed to OCU earlier in the week.
