OCU Defeats NAIA Rio Grande 8-4 to Split Doubleheader

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Baseball Squad picked up another huge win over a major NAIA university on Monday, when they came back to win the nightcap of their doubleheader with Rio Grande University by a score of 8-4. The Blazers played very well in the opener but dropped the game to the Red Storm 5-3.

Logan Creech pitched well in game one, but the Blazers bullpen gave up three late runs to break a 2-2 tie. Ryan Black cracked a game opening double and scored the first run for OCU on Avery Sneed's sacrifice fly.
In the second game the Blazers scored five early runs to go up 5-0 headed to the third inning. Two walks and a nifty bunt by Brian Keaton loaded the bases. Max Ray then knocked a long fly that the wind carried off the left fielder's glove at the fence. All three runners scampered home, and then Ray scored on Trevor whitesed's base hit. Black singled in the second and came around on Avery Sneed's sacrifice fly to center.
OCU added three insurance runs in the 5th, scoring after hits by Ray, Whitesed, and a walk to Steven Funk. Keaton drove home two with a single and an error allowed the final OCU run to score. Keaton and Ray each had 2 hits and combined to drive in 5 runs. Whitesed added 3 hits in the nightcap. Brandon Metzgar, Richie French, and Mike Miller combined on the hill and gave up only 2 earned runs. Rio Grande came in with a 28-24 record.
OCU hosts Johnson University in the Mid East Regional on Friday afternoon.
