CINCINNATI, OH - The Blazers dropped a 3-0 game to #2 ranked Florida Christian. Logan Creech pitched well fro the Blazers giving up only 3 runs to a team hitting over 300 for the season. OCU couldn't get any offense going and picked up only 3 hits for the game. We really played pretty well," commented Coach Brian Bigam. "We only struck out one time but just hit the ball right at them and they play great fundamental defense. Creech really settled in and pitched well and we played well behind him."
In the elimination night game, OCU came back from an 8-1 deficit in the final 3 innings to tie the game 8-8, but lost with two out in the bottom of the seventh to Lancaster Bible College of Pennsylvania by a 9-8 final.
OCU felll behind 8 to 1, but scored 4 in the fifth and 3 in the 6th to tie the game. The Blazers thought they had taken the lead in the 6th, but an OCU runner was ruled out for an illegal slide and it cost OCU two outs and two runs at the time.
The offensive comeback was led by Trevor Whitesed who had 3 hits and 4 big rbi's for OCU. Senior Max Ray knocked in two runs with two hits and Kelton Sines drovein the other two runs for the Blazers.
"We wasted some early runners and fell behind, but I am real proud of how we fought back to tie the game, commented Coach Brian Bigam," It was an offensive game and we missed a couple of chances and it cost us. Still, I thought we had the momentum, but they get three consecutive ground ball singles in the bottom of the seventh to win it."
"We lose three great seniors in Kelton Sines, Max Ray, and Ronnie Goodwin." "They have been the core of us going to three World Series in a row and competing extremely well with the best from Florida, Georgia, and Texas." "We are going to add five or six solid recruits to go with our current large freshman class and keep building on this growth of OCU Baseball," summed up Bigam.
