Two Sport Athlete Evan Werner Chooses OCU

PATASKALA, OH - Evan Werner has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball and baseball at Ohio Christian University.  Werner enjoyed a successful high school career at Watkins Memorial High School where he played basketball for coach Pat Dimmick and baseball for coach Don Schone.

Werner is a versatile athlete on both the basketball hardwood and on the baseball diamond.  As a senior leader on the men's basketball team, Werner proved to be a consistent offensive threat as the forward shot 54% from the field.  The southpaw tallied a season high 17 points against Big Walnut High School in a big 45-42 win.   Werner developed his hook shot and mid range jump shot and gave opposing defenses fits throught the season.

As a lefty hurler for the Watkins baseball team, Werner was also a standout performer.  To this point in his senior season he has helped Watkins HS to a 14-9-1 record on the year.  Werner has posted an ERA of 2.92 and has averged 1.52 strikeouts per inning pitched.

"Evan is a well rounded student-athlete that will contribute to our basketball and baseball programs over the next four years," said recruiting coordinator Jamey Batten.  "As a basketball player we like his skill set in the post and his ability to knock down mid-range shots.  On the baseball field he is a very solid left handed pitcher that will help the pitching staff be more versatile."

Werner joins two successful programs that are both coming off successful NCCAA National Tournament appearances for the third straight year.
