Blazers Big Road Win Against IU East

The # 2 nationally ranked Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University steal one on the road against NAIA Red Wolves of Indiana University East 77 to 76. The Trailblazers traveled to Richmond, Indiana last night looking to redeem their two double figure losses to IUE from last season. "We played a very big and athletic team well on defense tonight. We did not want them to get out and run so we slowed the game down and made them play in the half court. We were able to front the post and make them shoot from the perimeter," said Coach Christopher. The two teams played about even for the first half of the game with OCU going into the locker room up 30 to 28. In the second half senior guard Stefan Vasiloff got his shot going hitting 4 of 6 three pointers. This helped the team begin to build a lead heading down the stretch. He finished the game with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Junior center Mike Baker played a great game defending the bigs and came down with 10 rebounds and scored 8 points. "The size of the Red Wolves made us change our match ups. We moved Tim Baker to point guard so we could pass over the defense. " Tim had 13 points and 3 rebounds. "Moving Tim meant that we would lose some of our shooting power and others would have to step up." Among those would be freshman center Cornelius Oliver who had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block. The other player to step up was sophomore guard Michael Farrell. Michael finished the game with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. That was not all that Michael did for us, the story gets better. With six minutes to go, the Trailblazers were up by 12 points and the Red Wolves came roaring back with big shots and pressure defense. With only 30 seconds left in the game IUE got their first lead in over 30 minutes. OCU brought the ball up the floor and called time out with 20 seconds remaining. We set the play for Stefan to get a high screen and drive hard, he did just that but found a double team waiting and then handed the ball off to Michael Farrell who got to the corner of the foul line and scored the winning bucket with 2 seconds left on the clock. IUE failed at their last attempt. "Two buzzer beaters in a row will keep your heart rate up but I am very proud of my guys. They worked very hard for this win and I feel like they are realizing just how good they can be." Go Blazers!

The Trailblazers travel to Phoenixville Pennsylvania this Thursday to play in the Hersha Hospitality Big East Challenge. OCU will take on last year's national runner up Valley Forge Christian College on Friday night and Davis College on Saturday.

The Trailblazers JV squad also played tonight and got their first win this season 102 to 82. The kids played hard and shot the ball very well. Freshman guard Anthony McDaniels shot 9 for 11 three pointers and finished the game with 33 points. Freshman guard Josh Delph shot 6 for 8 from the three point land and had 22 points. "It was great to see out kids competing and coming together to get the win." JV Coach Ben Billman.
