Blazers Roll to 85-50 Win Over Boyce on Senior Night
CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Trailblazers (23-9, 10-0) sent their seniors out in style on Monday night with an 85-50 victory over the visiting Bulldogs of Boyce College. The win is the 9th straight for OCU who successfully swept through the Mid-East Region regular season schedule with a perfect 10-0 mark, a program first.
Ohio Christian jumped out to a thirty point lead in the first half, fueled by a 22-4 run by the Blazers with under ten minutes left. OCU shot a blistering 8 of 14 from 3 point range in the opening frame and went into halftime with a substantial 55-25 advantage. At halftime, OCU seniors Mo Fall, Mike Farrell, Jon Baker, Delorean Glanton, and Tirrell Cumberland were all honored in a special presentation.
The Trailblazers controlled the game throughout the 2nd half despite a 5-0 run by Boyce in the opening moments of the half to get to within 25. The Blazers pushed the lead to as many as 38 points before going on for the 85-50 victory.
OCU was led by senior Mo Fall who scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Anthony McDaniel was on fire from outside as he tallied 16 points while shooting 4 of 4 from 3 point range. Senior Tirrell Cumberland added 13 points and 3 steals in the win. Milen Kostov tossed in 12 points on 3 of 4 shooting from the field. Wesley Russell added 10 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds in a solid performance.
OCU shot 32 of 62 from the field for 51.6% compared to 16 of 48 from the field and 33% for visiting Boyce College. The Trailblazers outrebounded the Bulldogs 39-26. The OCU defense forced 31 Boyce turnovers while also blocking 8 shots and swiping 19 steals. OCU had 5 players scored in double figures and 10 players score in the game.
The current 9 game winning streak is the best streak of the season for Ohio Christian. The undefeated 10-0 Mid-East Region record is a historical first for the Blazers. This is the second milestone in three days for OCU, who just wrapped up their first ever OCAC Championship on Saturday afternoon.
OCU will now set their sites on the Mid-East Region Tournament which begins this Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky. The Blazers will enter the tournament as the #1 seed and will receive a first round bye before playing in the semifinals on Friday.
