Blazers Triumph Over Boyce in Mid-East Region Opener
LOUISVILLE, KY - Ohio Christian came away victorious in their Mid-East Region opener on Monday night as they came away with a convincing 109-75 victory. It was a tale of two halves as Boyce came out on fire in the first half and hit a barrage of shots from three point range as they jumped out to an early 12 point lead. OCU would rally back twice in the first half from double digit deficits but the hot shooting of Boyce kept the Bulldogs out in front. Boyce was able to take a 51-47 lead into the locker room at halftime.
A fired up OCU team came out and put on the defensive pressure in the second half and rallied to tie the game at 58-58 early in the final frame. Back to back layups by Mohamed Fall and James Nelson capped off a 14-2 run for the Traiblazers as they would go on to lead by 24 with 10 minutes remaining in the contest. The Blazers pushed the lead to 30 with just a few minutes remaining as they wrapped up a second half that saw them outscore Boyce 62-24.
OCU was led by senior forward Mo Fall who tossed in 24 points and 6 rebounds. James Nelson tossed in 19 points and pulled down 10 boards. Wesley Russell scored 13 points and dished out 5 assists. Tirrell Cumberland added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Josh Delph and Kenny Cooper chipped in 10 points each in a winning effort.
The Trailblazer defense forced 22 Boyce turnovers in the contest. OCU had 21 assists and 12 turnovers in the game. The 109 points scored by the Blazers is a season high as 11 different OCU players scored in the game.
OCU is back in action on Tuesday night as they take on OCAC rival, Southern State Community College at 7:30pm.
