Blazers Win OCAC Championship in Dominant Fashion

HILLSBORO, OH - The OCU Trailblazers (22-9, 9-0) continued their winning ways over the weekend and brought home the first ever OCAC Championship Title in school history with back to back wins on Friday and Saturday.  The OCAC title had eluded the Blazers since the OCAC was founded in 2008.

After receiving a first round bye as the #2 seed, OCU blitzed rival Valor Christian College in the semifinals on Friday afternoon, winning 85-71 over the Warriors from Canal Winchester.  Wesley Russell paced the OCU charge with 23 points and 7 assists.  Mo Fall added 21 points and 11 boards for OCU.  Kenny Cooper added 11 points and 6 boards for the Blazers.

The Blazers then advanced to the Championship where they took on Ohio Mid-Western University, who had defeated UC-Clermont by 17 points in their semifinal matchup on Friday night.  The Blazers steamrolled their way to an 88-67 championship win over the super athletic Rams and led by as many as 26 points in the second half.

Tirrell Cumberland lit up the Patriot Center in the Championship with a game high 30 points, including 7 of 11 shooting from downtown.  Mo Fall added 21 points and 10 rebounds for OCU.  James Nelson was big in the paint with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Blazers shot a red hot 14 of 23 from three point range in the title game.  They outrebounded the tall and very athletic Rams team 39-31.  OCU has now won 8 straight games and 16 of their last 18 contests dating back to January 6th.

OCU is back in action on Monday, February 20th when they take on Boyce College in the Mid-East Region finale.  The Trailblazers will be celebrating senior night by honoring five seniors.  The game is scheduled for a 7:00pm tip.
