Defense Leads the Way in 74-41 Win Over Johnson University
KNOXVILLE, TN - Ohio Christian pushed their winning streak to eight games on Friday night as they came away with a 74-41 victory over Johnson University.
The Blazers got out to a quick start as they jumped out to an early 12-0 lead in the opening six minutes. The OCU defense set the tone early on as Johnson was held to 6 of 26 shooting in the first half for 23.1%. Ohio went into the locker room with a 32-14 advantage.
OCU picked up the pace in the second half and pushed their lead to as many as 36 points. The Trailblazer defense would swipe 12 steals in the second half and force a total of 23 Johnson University turnovers. On the other end, the Ohio Christian offense enjoyed a stellar shooting performance as they went 31 of 57 for 54.4%.
Ohio was led by the sharpshooting duo of Wesley Russell and Trey Vaughan who each tossed in 19 points. Russell went 9 of 11 from the field in the game while Vaughan hit 5 of 9 from three point range. Evan Mills and Devyn Benson gave the Blazers a boost with 7 points each. Evin Bartlett was sensational at the point guard position with 6 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. The Blazers used a balanced effort as 11 different players scored in the game.
OCU is back in action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Crown College (TN) for a 3:00 PM contest. The Blazers are seeking their 9th straight victory.
