East Tech Senior Jimmy Horton Jr. Signs with OCU

CLEVELAND, OH - Jimmy Horton Jr. has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Ohio Christian University.  The signing took place on Thursday morning in the library at East Tech High School with teachers, coaches, mentors, and teammates in attendance.  Horton signed with OCU fresh off a sensational senior season playing under Head Coach Brett Moore.  Under the direction of Coach Moore, Horton piloted a high octane Golden Scarab offense that would go 16-7 on the season.

Horton led East Tech to the Senate League Championship game in his senior year.  After claiming Senate League runner-up, Horton led Tech to a postseason run where the Scarabs would reach the District Semifinals.  Horton led the team in assists, steals, and charges taken in his senior year.  For his tenacious play and strong work ethic, Horton was awarded the East Tech Hustle Award from Coach Moore in 2012.  Horton often deferred to other teammates in his role as a point guard and distributor but managed to net season highs of 18 points against Achbishop Hoban and 19 points against state powerhouse, St. Peter Chanel.

“We love the way he plays and carries himself as a young man,” said  Tony Stockman, Ohio Christian head coach and former Mr. Basketball Ohio.  “He understands the point guard position and has natural speed and athleticism.  He can score the ball but he chooses to set his teammates up first by playing his role as a distributor and being a team player.”

He also made a name for himself in the classroom at East Tech during his senior year, earning a 3.38 GPA.  At OCU, Horton plans on majoring in Business Managament and possibly pursuing his MBA at OCU after completing his undergraduate studies.

Horton Jr. joins a strong OCU basketball program that is coming off of a 27-10 season where they reached the Final Four for the first time in school history.  OCU kicks off their season on November 2nd at the Mt. Vernon Nazerene University Tipoff Tournament where they will be taking on Indiana University - East.
