OCU Defeats Crown and Johnson to move to 5-0 in Region

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Ohio Christian had a big weekend on the hardwood as they came away with regional wins over Crown College (TN) and Johnson University over the weekend.  On Friday night, a well disciplined Crown College team stayed close with the Blazers for the first 10 minutes.  A 12-2 run in the 2nd half put OCU ahead 40-27 at the half.  The Blazers shot a blistering 14 of 26 from the field in the first half to build a 13 point lead.

Crown College would not go away easily in the 2nd half, working hard to stay within 15 points for most of the half.  Ohio Christian was on the money from the free throw line in the 2nd half as the Blazers went 11 of 11 from the charity stripe.  A three point basket by Tirrell Cumberland pushed the OCU lead to 24 points with 7 minutes remaining.  A late run by Crown against the OCU reserves brought the Royal Crusaders back to within 15 points with the final score at 77-63 in favor of OCU.

Ohio Christian was led by Wesley Russell who scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Mo Fall had 15 points and 6 boards in the win.  Kenny Cooper was outstanding with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 steals.  The Blazers rebounded from recent free throw shooting woes by going 21 of 26 from the line for 81%.

On Saturday, OCU took on Johnson University and won in convincing fashion as the Blazers went on to win by 41 points with the score 96-55.  Ohio jumped out to a quick 45-20 lead in the opening half.  The Blazers used a balanced attack and strong bench play to push the lead to as many as 43 points in the 2nd half.

Milen Kostov scored a team high 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting.  Josh Delph tossed in 16 points and pulled down 7 boards in 22 minutes of action.  Seniors Delorean Glanton and Mo Fall added 16 and 11 points respectively.  James Nelson returned to action in big fashion as he tallied a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

With the win, OCU is now 5-0 in Mid-East region play.  Up next for the Blazers will be UC-Clermont on Tuesday night.  Ohio Christian will look to rebound from a 20 point loss to Clermont earlier in the season.
