OCU Defense Dominates in 91-54 Win at Clermont
BATAVIA, OH - The OCU Trailblazers got their defensive house in order on Friday night. The Blazers overwhelmed host UC-Clermont, winning 91-54 in a blowout victory. The win was the first ever OCU road win against UC-Clermont.
The host Cougars jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before Ohio Christian stormed back. The Blazers outscored Clermont 44-22 to close the half and head into halftime with a 46-29 lead.
There was no let up in the second half as the Blazers continued to get stops and push the tempo on offense. Ohio used a 12-0 run just 5 minutes into the second half to take a commanding 31 point lead. The Blazers went deep to the bench but the onslaught continued as the OCU went on to lead by as many as 41.
The OCU defense was key as the held Clermont to 2 of 19 shooting from 3pt range for 10.5%. OCU countered by knocking down 10 of 24 from downtown for a 41.7% clip. OCU won the battle of the boards 34-26 with 16 of those being offensive rebounds. The OCU defense also came up big by taking 7 charges against Clermont.
Trey Vaughan led OCU with 19 points while shooting 4 of 8 from three point range. James Nelson shot a perfect 6 for 6 from the field for 16 points. Wesley Russell added 11 points for OCU. Treyvon Crater and Evan Mills tossed in 9 points each.
OCU is back in action on December 4th when they take on NAIA rival, Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Mount Vernon won 77-75 in the first matchup back on November 3rd.
