OCU Dominates Southern State in 101-68 Victory

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The Ohio Christian men's basketball team took on OCAC rival, Southern State Community College on Tuesday night and left no doubt in the final outcome as the Blazers enjoyed a 101-68 victory.  The high scoring Southern State offense came into the contest averaging just under 100 points per game and had four different players averaging 15 points or more per game.

The OCU defense held firm from the opening tip as they limited the visiting Patriots to 3 of 13 shooting (.231) from three point range in the opening half.  The Blazers took a ten point lead with the score 38-28 on a three pointer by Tirrell Cumberland to cap off a 12-4 OCU run.  The Trailblazers finished off the first half strong to take a 51-37 lead at the intermissions as both teams headed to the locker rooms.

The Ohio Christian defense continued to dominate in the 2nd half as the Blazers held the Patriots to 10 of 30 shooting (.333) in the half.  OCU responded with an all-out offensive attack where the Trailblazers shot 24 of 38 (.632) in the second half as the home team pushed the lead to 30 points on a three point basket by Milen Kostov.  Ohio Christian went deep to the bench as 11 different players scored in the game as OCU went on to win 101-68.

The Blazers had a season high 33 assists in the game compared to 17 turnovers.  The OCU defense blocked 8 shots, swiped 12 steals, and forced 18 turnovers.  Ohio Christian won the battle of the boards by a wide margin as the Blazers grabbed 49 rebounds compared to the 25 that Southern State was able to grab.

Senior Mo Fall led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Tirrell Cumberland tallied 16 points and 7 assists in the win.  Kenny Cooper made a big impact with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals, and 3 assists off the bench.  Milen Kostov was a big spark with 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting.  Wesley Russell added 12 points and 5 assists.  Delorean Glanton added 8 points while James Nelson scored 6 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Bryan Keaton dished out 6 assists and committed zero turnovers while playing stellar defense for OCU.

OCU is back in action on January 3rd when they take on the defending NCCAA National Champions and current #1 ranked team in the nation, Grace Bible College.  The game is set for a 7:00PM tip.
