OCU Victorious at Kentucky Christian for 5th Straight Win
GRAYSON, KY - The Trailblazers came out on top over a scrappy Kentucky Christian University squad on Tuesday night, winning 91-81 to move to 2-0 in Mid-East Region play. The win was the 5th straight for Ohio Christian as the Trailblazers have ran the table since losing at Pikeville on January 3rd.
OCU appeared to be in control in the first half. The Blazers held an early double digit lead and pushed their advantage to as many as 19 points in the opening session. The host Knights responded with a big 14-4 run to close the half and cut the deficit to 9 points as the Trailblazers went into halftime leading 42-33.
Ohio Christian opened up the second half with an Evin Bartlett three pointer to push their lead to a dozen. The Blazers went up by as many as 17 points but KCU would not go away. With OCU leading by a score of 74-58, the Knights mounted a big rally in the final seven minutes. KCU trimmed the lead to single digits, but OCU would put the game away at the free throw line, winning 91-81 to keep their winning streak alive.
James Nelson led the OCU effort with a team high 19 points and 9 rebounds. Jimmy Horton Jr. had a season high 16 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Wesley Russell tossed in 14 points while going 8 of 10 from the charity stripe. Milen Kostov was a big spark with 10 points on 2 of 4 shooting from downtown. Evin Bartlett and Danny Schrock added 9 point each as both players hit a trio of three point baskets. Evan Mills added 8 points and Devyn Benson tossed in 6 points on 3 of 4 shooting.
The Blazers (11-7, 2-0) are back in action this Friday night as they host UC-Clermont at 8:00 PM. OCU won the first matchup with UC-Clermont back on November 30th.
