Ohio Christian Advances to NCCAA Finals with 69-64 Win Over Florida Christian

SPRINGFIELD, MO - Ohio Christian University enjoyed a historic win on Friday night as the Trailblazers outlasted a talented Florida Christian squad by a score of 69-64 in the NCCAA National Tournament Final Four Round.

OCU faced an early 6 point deficit but battled back to take the lead late in the first half.  An 8-0 OCU run was capped off by a three pointer by Jimmy Horton Jr. that just beat the buzzer at the end of the first half, giving the Trailblazers a 32-20 lead at the intermission.

Florida Christian would battle back in the second half, opening up with a 20-8 run to the game at 40-40.  The Trailblazers regrouped and regained the lead at 64-54 with three minutes remaining.

FCC battled back with full court pressure in the final three minutes to get back into the game.  OCU pushed their lead to 5 points at the free throw line with less than 30 seconds left and got a stop on the final Florida Christian possession to seal the win 69-64.

OCU was led by Wesley Russell who battled leg cramps to lead the offense with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists.  James Nelson was big in the middle with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.  Devyn Benson was strong in the paint with 10 points and 4 rebounds.  Evan Mills added 7 points and 5 blocked shots in the win.

The Trailblazers will now advance to the NCCAA Finals on Saturday where they will take on the Patriots of Arlington Baptist College.  The game is set to tip off at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
