Ohio Christian Defeats Crown College (TN) 76-45 for 20th Win of the Season
CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Trailblazers took on Mid-East Region rival, Crown College from Tennessee on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 76-45 victory. The game was physical throughout as both teams competed fervently, but OCU came out on top with a balanced team effort on both ends of the floor.
The Blazers took care of business early on as OCU jumped out to an 18-9 advantage in the opening ten minutes of play. Ohio Christian pushed the lead to 37-18 with two minutes remaining in the half. Crown was resliliant as always and fought back, closing the half with a 7-1 run to cut the OCU lead to 15 at halftime with the score at 38-23.
OCU continued to control the game into the second half as the Trailblazers pushed the lead to 35 points on a three pointer by Danny Schrock late in the game. OCU went on to win 76-45 in what proved to be a very physical contest.
The OCU defense was an imposing presence as they held Crown to 27.5% shooting from the field and 1 of 14 from three point range for 7.1%. The Blazer defense forced 28 Crown turnovers and swiped 16 steals. OCU won the battle of the boards 43-23.
Ohio Christian placed 11 different players in the scoring column. Trey Vaughan scored a team high 13 points. Wesley Russell added 11 points for OCU. James Nelson, Devyn Benson, and Danny Schrock each tossed in 9 points in the win. Evan Mills tallied 8 points and 8 boards.
The Blazers are now 20-8 on the season and 15-0 against NCCAA Division II competition this year. OCU is back in action next Friday when they host Kuyper College for Pizza and Points - Youth Group Night. The game is set to tip at 8:00 PM. OCU won the first matchup with Kuyper back in November as the Blazers needed overtime to win in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
