Ohio Christian Defeats WVU-Parkersburg 84-61 to Pick Up 7th Consecutive Victory

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Trailblazers (13-7) extended their winning streak to seven games on Tuesday night in a convincing 84-61 victory over the visiting Riverhawks of West Virginia University Parkersburg (7-7).

The game was never in doubt as OCU jumped out to an early 9-5 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back.  The Blazer defense proved to make a big impact as they held the visiting Riverhawks to a meager 22 of 71 from the field in the game for 31.0%.

A sensational three point buzzer-beater by Wesley Russell at the end of the first half gave the Trailblazers a 45-31 advantage heading into halftime.  The Blazers ended up hitting 5 of 11 three pointers in the first half for 45.5%.

Ohio Christian did not let up as they pushed their lead to as many as 26 points in the second half.  The Blazers were strong on the glass in the final frame as they would go on to win the battle of the boards 49-32.  OCU would finish off WVU-P with an 84-61 victory to extend their current winning streak to seven games.  The Blazers went deep to the bench as 11 players saw action and 9 players scored.

The OCU offense was led by James Nelson who scored a game high 20 points while also blocking 4 shots.  Trey Vaughan tossed in 17 points while shooting 3 of 5 from three point range.  Wesley Russell tallied 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.  Jimmy Horton Jr. added 8 points and 3 assists.  Milen Kostov and Kenny Cooper each scored 7 points for the Blazers.  Joe Collier provided a spark off the bench with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

The Blazers are back in action this weekend as they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to resume Mid-East Region play.  Ohio Christian will take on Johnson University on Friday night and Crown College on Saturday.
