Ohio Christian Wins 2012 Mid-East Region Championship

LOUISVILLE, KY - The OCU men's basketball team (25-9, 12-0) won their third straight Mid-East Region Championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating Kentucky Christian University 82-67 in a hard fought and emotional title game.  OCU entered the game with an 11-0 mark in region play and having won 10 straight games.

KCU was ready to play and gave the Trailblazers all they could handle in the first half.  KCU senior Blanden Clemens tallied 15 points in the opening period to give KCU a 37-34 lead heading into halftime.  Mo Fall led the OCU effort in the first half, scoring 11 points on 4 of 4 shooting.

The second half was a back and forth battle in the opening minutes.  After trailing by 4 points minutes into the final frame, OCU used a 20-0 run in the second half to take a commanding 16 point lead.  KCU battled adversity with injuries and a trio of technical fouls in the second half as OCU ran away with the game and went on to win 82-67.

The OCU charge was led by Tirrell Cumberland who tallied 19 points and shot 3 of 8 from three.  Mo Fall added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the win.  Josh Delph was 5 of 8 from the field for 12 points.  Wesley Russell had 10 points and 8 assists for the Blazers.  James Nelson added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks.  Kenny Cooper was 4 of 4 from the field as he scored 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

OCU will now prepare for the NCCAA National Tournament where they will face the round 1 winner of the Grace University vs Trinity Bible College game on Thursday, March 8th at 4:00PM CST.
