Second Half Surge Fuels 96-61 Win at Boyce College
LOUISVILLE, KY - Ohio Christian capped off their weekend road trip in winning form as the Trailblazers defeated Boyce College 96-61. OCU overcame a slow start and rallied in the second half to run away away with the game by a wide margin.
The Trailblazers used a 6-0 run with six minutes remaining in the first half to take a 31-22 lead. The host Bulldogs from Boyce College then put together a 15-6 run to close the half and go into the intermission with the score tied at 37-37.
Ohio Christian came out in the second half with a renewed sense of focus and energy. The enthusiasm carried over for the full 20 minutes of play as the OCU offense rung up 59 points on the host Bulldogs in the second half. In turn, the Blazer defense stepped up and held Boyce to just 24 points in the final frame.
OCU won the battle on the boards 34-26. The Trailblazers dished out 16 assists while turning it over 12 times compared to 10 assists and 21 turnovers for Boyce. The OCU defense showed up big with 15 steals and a season high 10 blocked shots.
OCU placed five players in double digits. The Trailblazers were led by Wesley Russell who scored a game high 21 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Evan Mills added 12 points while Treyvon Crater scored 11 in the win. James Nelson tallied 11 points and 8 rebounds for OCU. Milen Kostov rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points. Evin Bartlett led OCU with 5 assists and Kenny Cooper led the defensive effort with 5 blocked shots.
OCU is back in action on Tuesday night at the Trailblazers host the Knights of Kentucky Christian University for an 8:00 PM game. The game will be broadcasted live on Trailblazer TV with Rick Cooper.
